WarCraft IIIs visual overhaul update is rolled back after its release messes with existing campaign saves

When it comes to a game that has alot of deep-seated memories, it’s generally bad form to muck around with some of its visual style too much. That was part of the issue players were having withWarCraft III: Reforged’s decision to have graphical updates that threw fans into a tizzy, as they complained about unit size, animations, and spell effects that impacted play.

That leads us into some recent PTR testing for patch 3.0.1, which has primarily sought to address those complaints by bringing the visuals more in line with their originals. As these tests go, feedback was monitored for several weeks, and then the update was released to the wider public. Unfortunately, that release has not gone to plan, as it has reportedly made existing campaign saves incompatible.

As you can imagine, thisalso made fans upset, but Blizzard hadinformed players that this would happenat the very top of the patch notes. Even so, the surprise from most of the players was apparently enough thatthe devs have rolled it back in order to gran players time to complete their acts before it goes live again. They also have placed the save compatibility warning on the Battle.net launcher, which ideally will make it harder to miss once 3.0.1 goes back online. Maybe.
