NetEase Games and Joker Studio are preparing to put Sea of Remnants through its first major player test. The upcoming free-to-play ocean-fantasy RPG will enter Closed Beta in December 2026. The announcement came during gamescom Opening Night Live, where they also dropped a new trailer.
Sea of Remnants is being developed for Windows PC, alongside PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS and Android. You take control of a puppetfolk sailor who has lost their memories and finds themselves travelling across a huge ocean dotted with mysterious islands.
The journey starts in Orbtopia, a busy city that acts as a central point between expeditions. Later, you’ll head back out into an archipelago filled with different locations, encounters and pieces of a forgotten past.
Let’s talk about the new Sea of Remnants trailer
It focuses on one of the game’s bigger mysteries: why a Voyager who cannot remember their past keeps returning to the same ocean. It also gives a look at the core Set Sail–Explore–Collect–Return gameplay cycle, which forms the foundation of each expedition.
The trailer shows a range of island environments, minigames and other lighter activities, along with turn-based battles on land and naval encounters at sea. Combat changes from one voyage to another, making the decisions you make while building your crew particularly important.
Well, enough with the descriptions. Why don’t you check out the trailer for yourself?
Sea of Remnants uses a roguelike structure for its open-world voyages. So, expeditions are replayable rather than following exactly the same sequence every time. Enemies and bosses can change, while potential crewmates, equipment, skills and enhancements can also vary between voyages.
Sea of Remnants is currently accepting pre-registrations through the official website, ahead of its Closed Beta Test in December 2026.
