If you like mobile roguelikes, Guidus One is now out. It’s the newest entry in the Guidus series by IZZLE, the Seoul-based indie game studio. The pixel-art roguelike RPG is available on both Android and iOS.
Guidus One is a new take on dungeon-crawling
It mixes real-time combat with grid-based movement instead of making you wait around for turns. The whole adventure is about reclaiming the royal palace. You’ll be heading into dungeons where enemies, traps, terrain and other dangers can change from one run to the next.
As you get deeper into the dungeon, your decisions start mattering more, especially when you’re dealing with tougher monsters and bosses. Then there’s the hero system. You can discover and unlock different heroes, each with their own combat styles and abilities.
The roguelike makes the dungeon keep changing. Each attempt can throw randomly generated terrain, traps and monsters at you. Every run can play out differently, and the game lets you combine abilities with Karma effects to build your own strategy depending on the heroes, equipment and combinations you happen to have.
You get a wide variety of equipment to collect, along with heroes to develop, while powerful bosses are waiting further into the dungeons. The controls are intentionally simple, but the combat is interesting through the grid-based system.
It’s a perfect phone game
Guidus One uses a vertical screen interface and supports one-handed play. The visual design sticks to high-quality pixel art as well, with the pixel graphics used to bring the world, characters and especially the bigger bosses to life.
The launch version already includes the story and content through Chapter 2. And IZZLE has already laid out a future update roadmap covering new modes, heroes, equipment, dungeons and more content. On that note, take a look at Guidus One below.
You can grab Guidus One on the Google Play Store and the App Store.
