As teased last week, Funcom-backed studio Astrolabe has pushed out the final early access update for cozy co-op sandbox Aloft today.
“Discovery & Ancestry also represents a major leap forward for Aloft,” the dev studio says. “A game engine upgrade from Unity 2021 to Unity 6 creates new opportunities for improved performance and visuals, while a revamped world, reworked user interface, and updated progression and navigation systems give players more freedom to chart their own path through the skies.”
The patch notes recap the features: the new wind spirit companion, new sub-biomes, new weather events, new types of surveying, new building pieces, new “ancestral memories” unlocks, new farming plants, and sewing kits and other tools.
Yesterday’s dev blog deep-dived the update, noting that players will need to start over with a new world – again – to make full use of all the new content, though old worlds will still be functional(-ish) and accessible. You can at least bring character progression and your home islands with you to the new worlds, so it’s chiefly the explorables you’re losing.
