August Metacritic Round-Up: Indie Game Big Walk Takes a Giant Stride

How did August 2026’s flood of new global game releases perform? We look back at August’s fierce competition on the charts based on Metacritic scores.

August: A Giant Stride by ‘Big Walk’

The main spotlight of August goes to Big Walk. Big Walk is a title developed by indie game developer House House, known for Untitled Goose Game and Push Me Pull You. Delightfully capturing quirky, seemingly trivial characters, co-op exploration with friends, and the ultimate hallmark of co-op play—playful trolling(?), the game recorded a Metacritic score of 91 from 46 reviews and earned an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam (across all languages, 26,194 total reviews).

Following behind was the Star Wars-based turn-based game ‘Star Wars Zero Company’ with a score of 85, ‘Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2’ containing Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker with 85, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s expansion ‘Cost of Hope’ with 84, and the new entry in the A Plague Tale series, ‘Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy’, with 78.

On the Switch 2 front, Pokémon Pokopia released its ‘Bubbly Basin’ DLC, while Elden Ring and Lies of P drew positive responses by releasing their ‘Tarnished Edition’ and ‘Complete Edition’, respectively.

🕵※ Quick Note! – Metacritic lists review scores by platform, and the score shown is not an overall aggregate across all platforms, but rather the score for the platform with the highest number of reviews. For example, Stellar Blade has 138 reviews on PS5 (81 points) and 32 reviews on PC (84 points), so the score for PS5, which has more reviews, is displayed.
