Mythologically speaking, Tartarus is not a nice place. That doesn’t mean that it can’t provide some possible fun for the players ofTorchlight: Infinite, however, as playing around in the dungeon that bears the same name will be a primary feature for the OARPG’s Season 14, which is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, October 15th. Pity the numbers don’t both line up there.
In the game, Tartarus is both a prison and a game mode, which is broken up into three parts. First, players will need to track down and defeat escaped prisoners to collect their nameplates, then they’ll manage the prison directly, placing inmates in one of 16 cells, arranging them into strategic fights between prisoners or against beasts. After 20 turns of prison building and management, the final phase will see players take on their arranged enemies, moving across three prison levels and six levels of difficulty for rewards based on how far they get.
While the Tartarus game mode is the primary attraction for the upcoming season, there will also be some other major additions that include a new hero trait known as Spacetime Witness Youga that can make spellcasting continuous, and a new progression system that involves gathering followers for active and passive benefits. If you happen to have about 45 minutes to spare, a presentation that breaks it all down can be watched below.
