BlizzCon 2026: Blizzard announces new open-world StarCraft shooter

At BlizzCon this afternoon, Blizzard officially announced StarCraft as an open-world shooter, confirming months – years, really – of rumors about a return to the franchise after almost a decade. The new game is launching in 2030, though, so settle in for a long wait. We don’t know a whole lot more, and there’s nothing on the official site yet either… except for what’s in the trailer.

“Let’s be honest,” director Dan Hay says. “It’s about damn time.”
