If you hear a horrible slithering sound squidging its way intoHearthstone, don’t worry, that’s totally by design because Reign of the Black Empire, the next expansion for the digital card game, is bringing back some more of that Old God flavor when it arrives next month on October 20th, promising a new keyword known as “assemble” that lets the texts of two cards combine and some new card types (naturally).
One of the card types for this upcoming expansion is aberration cards, a new minion type that’s whole schtick is summoning one of two randomly selected deities to the field, but only after three of these cards have been sacrificed. These cards will be landing ahead of time with the game’s next update on September 22nd, alongside hero changes and other card updates.
Other features for the expansion include updates to the journal feature that will hold narrative pieces as well as some events, alongside a new 2v2 tavern brawl mode. Finally of major note, the game is going to get its first new class in a long time in the form of the Monk, arriving sometime next year.
“The Monk, Hearthstone’s first new class in over six years, bursts onto the scene in 2027, bringing its signature fluid playstyle and adaptable nature to the Tavern. Hearthstone’s next expansion Reign of the Black Empire takes Hearthstone back to the earliest age of Azeroth, long before the Old Gods were imprisoned. The new keyword Assemble merges two cards into a powerful new one, opening the door for some wildly unpredictable combinations. The overhauled Journal is jam-packed with stories from each expansion, with all of the quests, achievements, and events from past adventures brought together in one place. Battlegrounds is adding a new minion type: Aberrations, interdimensional beings born of the Old Gods’ influence.”
