Project Gorgon studio Elder Game has spent the last few weeks teasing content for its next patch – and there’s a little something for everyone. The team previewed a new arctic fox pet at the top of the month, then some UI overhauling earlier this week, specifically a better favor window meant to “[demystify] the NPC Favor system for newer players” and make sure folks know how to make money through NPC shops. The most recent tease came Wednesday, when Eric Heimburg announced Steam cheevos are en route.
“The next game update will feature our first batch of Steam achievements,” he says. “We’ll have about a dozen achievements to start, and we’ll probably add a few dozen more over time. There are some achievements you earn just by playing the game, like the ‘reach level 25’ achievement. But those are pretty boring! I think most achievements will be for difficult tasks or outrageous challenges. We’ve also taken care to make achievements as ‘retroactive’ as possible. If you already have a combat skill over level 25, for instance, you’ll get that achievement as soon as you log in to the game. (Again, after the next update! The achievements aren’t actually achievable quite yet.) Similarly we know which bosses you’ve killed before, so achievements for killing bosses are also retroactive.”
Heimburg also tells players to post their ideas for “outlandish” cheevos and challenges in Discord. There’s no hard date for the launch of the update, but it’s sounding close.
Readers will remember that Project Gorgon is a much-loved indie MMORPG that lost one half of its husband-and-wife dev team to terminal cancer back in 2025. The team forged on and launched out of early access this past January, with so many new players that the studio had to rush to put up new servers to manage its newly acquired 6000 subscribers. That population has quieted down in the ensuing months, though the MMORPG still sees more peak players now than it did before the launch.
