There was a whole lot of news rushing out ofThe Division 2 during this year’s Gamescom, as Ubisoft Massive used the convention tomake several major announcements — and one of those announcements is arguably a completely unexpected one.
We’ll start with the expected one, which is thepromised early details about the shooter’s next DLC: Called Echoes of Central Park, this new content will take players to the NYC landmark to answer a distress call that has suddenly gone dark. Details about what this expansion will bring weren’t shared, but the devs have promised a darker atmosphere and a major focus on terror and fear. More granular information is promised in a showcase scheduled for Thursday, September 24th.
As for the unexpected one, that’s the likely welcome confirmation that cross-platform play is headed for the looter shooter sometime in November, which has reportedly taken a lot of backend architecture fiddling to get working. Once it comes online, it will be enabled by default, while clans will allow for a maximum of 100 players to accommodate the new groundswell of players. The option can be disengaged if you want to, but why would anyone want to?
Finally of note from Gamescom is a peek at the next season coming to the game, which includes the return of the Black Tusk, a hint at a White Tusk being deployed, and some endgame adjustments on tap that include more control over the challenge and rewards from escalations and a rework of prototype gear. Again, more details are promised sometime later.
As for current affairs,Season 3: Red Horizon is now live, which introduces the flamethrower-loving Cleaners enemy faction to the map of Washington D.C., new modifiers, updates to gear and the Determined talent, adjustments to the dark zones that include the permanent PvE dark zone and a new PvP dark zone, and a bunch of new gear and other gameplay updates. The patch notes link above spell it all out.
